Roc n Soc

I gotta tell ya. I'm playing better than ever. I seem to be in more of a neutral position. I'm able to do lots of fun things.

Comfortable Thorne

I love it, it is more comfortable than the pearl throne I had and the added back rest keeps my spine from getting sore.

A massive improvement over my previous throne

I bought this throne to try out the motorcycle-style throne, as opposed to the traditional round throne. I'm tall and thin, and I was running into balancing & comfort issues on my previous (round) throne, due to having too much seat restricting my inner thighs.

Right out of the box, it was clearly a huge improvement. The base alone was twice as heavy as the entirety of the throne it was replacing. The seating area is very large and ergonomically accommodating. Plenty of solid padding. The stitching seems a little basic for the price (deducted the tiniest of stars for this,) but I've read enough testimonials of this throne lasting 10+ years for it to be a non-issue. 10+ years is a great run for ANY padded seat.

Installation was as simple as can be; splay the legs out, tighten at the base, rest the seat on the piston, tighten the two (plastic!?) knobs on the back of the seat, and you're ready to go.

The gas-powered height adjustment is perfect, in that it has just the right amount of pressure when adjusting. The seat doesn't fly down and bottom out, like a cheap office chair would. Feels very reassuring.

The seat is immensely comfortable, and I immediately felt right at home the first time I sat in front of my kit. It's got a great (subtle) amount of hydraulic bounce to it, and not too much as to get your entire body bouncing up and down. Just enough to get a nice fluidity going. And the ergonomic motorcycle shape did indeed address my issues when playing double bass -- my thighs feel supported now, rather than restricted. I played for three hours last night just getting a feel for it, and didn't want to stop.

Worth mentioning is, the plush material on the top of the seat does seem pretty warm, warmer than the usual faux leather. The benefit I can see is, no "swamp" in extended sessions. If you often play in a garage (or any other place that can get hot,) you may want to consider against the plush top material.

Another point to consider is the swivel action. This throne swivels quite easily, nearly effortlessly. I know some people don't like an easy swivel, and some like no swivel at all. I like it, though!

All in all, I wish I had just sucked it up and invested in this throne the first time around. Sometimes you can get away with cutting costs, but the seat supporting your body should never be one of those things.

Great Throne!

I have been sporting a Tama 1st Chair for over 24 years. While it still is holding up just fine, just a little less cusion, I feel that a new seat was finally in order. I have been playing on an older Roc n Soc drum throne at church with the back rest for 10 years, and it has always been very sturdy and supportive, and is still in a new like condition. Based on my experience with Roc n soc thrones, I am sure this one will last a very long time. Thank you Aaron at Sweetwater for all your help over the years
