Hi-hats for people who hate Hi-hats… Stay with me.

Cymbals are my least favorite instruments on the drum kit. Why? Because they're loud, abrasive, much of the time not terribly musical. Out of all my cymbals, my hats have always been my least favorite, because traditionally speaking, they always have sounded the most offensive to me. These extra dry hats mitigate all my dislikes and they do this beautifully. They sound much more like white noise when played open, almost like sand paper being rubbed together. Anyone ever have music class in elementary school and there were always those two blocks of wood with sand paper for you to rub together? Think that. They're articulate enough, and they almost sound naturally compressed. They. Don't. Get. Loud. It's GREAT. Would I recommend them for hardcore punk, or metal? Not necessarily (though, always reach for what serves the song the best). But for general purpose hats these will be my go-to until I find something I like better. But I seriously doubt that will happen.

Ideal use cases in my opinion include:

- acoustic/low volume situations (Church, coffee shop gigs, etc)
- more experimental music
- recording
- live playing with proper sound

In closing, if you're tired of the typical "clang clang" that comes with so many pairs of Hi-hats and you're wanting something with a little more breath and subtlety, try these. If you hate them, they hold their value pretty well so you may take a 50 dollar hit. Take a chance on them!

Music background: Live/session drummer for 15 years

amazing hi hats!

I have a thing for meinl cymbals and these beasts are as good as it gets as far as hi hats are concerned. I have great sounding new beats, giant beats, etc but got tired of the "normal" sounding hats and was looking for something new and a little different for this indie rock project Im working on. I already have a set of meinl byzance dual hats which are my new favorites and wanted to add a set of 16" to my arsenal for recording. I was afraid these would be too trashy but they record so beautifully and have a character to them that just sounds beautiful! They look gorgeous and sound amazing and I love the foot closed sound more than any other set I own. Highly recommended!

Outstanding! So versatile!!

I had been researching what hi hats were going to fit the sound I wanted for quite some time. I watched video after video after video and kept getting drawn back to these cymbals.

The size gives me a nice full trashy sound when playing open but because they are extra dry, they stay real crisp when played closed. And being medium thin makes easily manipulated when paying funk beats.

Over all, incredible sound and feel. And you can't beat the "3 easy payment" option. Makes poor guys like me afford incredible gear.

Surprisingly Versatile

I bought these hats for my studio collection to do ballads and stuff that was more 'vintage' sounding. I am always surprised by how versatile they are and tend to leave them on my kit for a while every time I use them.

They're low pitch and big, but they stay crisp and they have a really nice wash that doesn't overpower the kit if you're laying into them.

They do get a little splashy if you hit them too hard when they're open. But these probably aren't the hats for someone who is a super heavy hitter.
