Great Skins

After spending a lot of review time deciding on a DW upgrade or the PDP Concept Maple, I chose these for the reviews and pricepoint. I am so happy with them, the quality of hardware, finish and sound is great. I upgraded from a set of Pearl Export that I have played all over the world. Great price and service from Sweetwater as well. The 800 series hardware is excellent and the two leg high hat finally allows an easy set up for my double bass pedal! Great set!

Best sound for the money---Excellent Value!

I've had the PDP CM-7 kit for just about a year now, which I purchased as a backup kit for quick turn-over shows with multiple bands on the same card. I have DW Collector's Oak which is my primary gigging kit. Hands-down, you will not find a better sounding kit for the price---amazingly, great sound, and I highly recommend you purchase this kit if you want professional sound, live and studio, if you don't want to offer up your first-born to pay for a high-end DW, Pearl, Yamaha or some other manufacturer's top-of-the-line kit. But, ultimately, you do get what you pay for. While the sound of the CMs is tremendous, and I've had sound engineers compliment me on the great sound, and to my chagrin, tell me they sound better than my DWs that I paid 8 times more for, the PDP from a manufacturing, build and quality perspective, does have some issues. First, right out of the box, I had to get rid of the Chinese Remo heads and replace all of the heads with made-in-the-USA Remo Pinstripes, a P3 and P77 batter heads, and Remo clear Ambassadors for resonant heads. There are some very nice features with the CM that are very similar to DW---the maple shells, the magnetic throw-off on the snare is very nice, as well as the suspension tom mounts which really let the toms sing. The hardware is just okay. I noticed manufacturing surface "pits" in the hoops, and the hoops are not particularly heavy or strong. The floor tom legs are adequate in strength. I was having trouble tuning the 8" tom---come to find out after stripping the heads and the hardware off, the bearing edge was not even. The snare drum sounds great, too, but, there are two lugs that continuously come loose from playing (Blue (NOT RED) Loctite will take care of that). Because not all of the bearing edges are perfect, the drums do go out of tune from show-to-show and I find myself tuning a lot more than with my other kits. If I were to buy this kit again, and I would, I would get a wrapped finish as opposed to a lacquer or natural finish. I have the Ebony Lacquer, and it doesn't take a lot to scratch or mar the finish, but I've probably played 50 or more shows with this kit in the last 11 months. That's a lot of set-up and take-down. Bottom line, you get a lot for the money, particulary the sound, which is what we all want. If you're a pro and playing a couple of hundred gigs a year, and you only have one kit, this may not be the kit for you. But, if you need a great back-up kit, or it's going to sit in a studio, or you're playing once or twice a month, you will not be sorry you bought this kit.

great looking and sounding drum set

Purchased the natural wood drum set and it is beautiful to look at. They sound great and I couldn't be more satisfied. I had to replace the snare head after a week but I was planning on doing that anyway so I can't complain. Would recommend this set to anyone who is a intermediate or advanced drummer.
