A Reproduction of Bonzo's Iconic Kit

The Ludwig Zep Set 5-piece shell pack is a re-creation of John Bonham's legendary acrylic set. There is no question that Bonham helped write the book for hard-hitting rock ’n’ roll stage presence and drumming. These acrylic shells and LM402 Supraphonic snare give you those same looks and sounds. In addition to Bonzo, Ludwig Drums has a very proud artist roster that includes Ringo Starr, Roger Taylor, Dave Lombardo, and many more. The Zep Set 5-piece shell pack delivers these players' iconic sounds and nails that patented Bonham thunder.

Construction and sound

The Zep Set shell pack is made from an amber acrylic that matches Bonham's kit from Led Zeppelin's film The Song Remains the Same. Ludwig's Vistalite acrylic is famous for its huge attack and attention-grabbing looks. These drums are great for hard rock and metal due to their loud and present tone. The acrylic is very durable to avoid frustrating shell cracks. And you also get the Ludwig Supraphonic snare.

Not many drummers can claim as many groundbreaking rock ’n’ roll performances as Led Zeppelin's John Bonham. He single-handedly changed what rock drumming looked and sounded like. From his performances in The Song Remains the Same to the intro of "When the Levee Breaks," the ending of "Rock and Roll," and the drum solo in "Moby Dick," Bonham's legacy is forever cemented in drum history. And you can thank a good part of his sound to the Ludwig drums he chose to play. Now, you can grab some of that presence with this Zep Set 5-piece shell pack.

The Ludwig legacy

Since 1909, Ludwig drums have had one of the proudest legacies in percussion, and they're a favorite of Sweetwater drummers for their sometimes warm, sometimes massive sound. The world has heard them in front of Cream's Ginger Baker, keeping the pulse behind Queen at Live Aid, and laying down the monstrous sound of Led Zeppelin's "When the Levee Breaks." But their biggest break came when Ringo Starr proudly played them on The Ed Sullivan Show in 1964.

Greatest kit ever made in my book!

I have had this kit since 2003 when it was first released. At that time it came with all the stands, not just a shell pack. As you can see by my photo I have personalized it to my taste. The tone of these drums are completely unsurpassed and can be used in a wide variety of music depending on the heads you choose and how you tune them.

We’ve Come Full Circle!

Back in the day it was all about big amps, loud drummers and packed Rock clubs! Then, In the 80's, we got caught up in the electronic gear and computer sequencer rage. It was awful…no feel, might as well been doing Karaoke! Small amps, electronic drums and giant PA systems.
So, about a year ago, a couple of us "Old Timers" decided to go back in time and rock it old school. A full stack Marshall 100w Superlead, a Fender 300w SuperBassman and this new Ludwig Vistalite Zep kit is just the ticket! These drums replaced a new Yamaha kit we had been using. Oh…they sounded good, but man, this Zep kit when tuned properly(which was an easy task) just made a world of difference of the impact of the music. This is really fun!
The only disappointment was the fact that the kick drum is no longer shipped with the "T" tuning rods. Although it makes absolutely no difference it would be nice to have them. So, I bought a new set of vintage rods and installed them. The only reason I gave 4 1/2 stars instead of 5.

Big Boomy Kit

I've always liked Bonham's big sound and this kit captures that very well. These drums are big and loud. I beat the heck out of a smaller kit for many years and incorporated a lot of double bass drum in my playing style - that takes some getting used to with this massive 26" bass drum but I really like the huge sound that I get out of this kit. I like Ludwig and it looks pretty cool too.

This kit includes 1 snare stand, but not a 14" tom stand

There is confusion about what this kit includes.

It DOES include ONE snare stand, but not a stand for the 14" tom.

It does not include any cymbal stands, cymbals, hihat or bass pedal.
It DOES include a snare drum and the other drums shown in the pic.
