Beautiful All-brass Snare Delivers Amazing Tone

When Pork Pie says their snare drum is made of brass, they aren't kidding! This USA Custom Patina Brass Snare Drum takes the concept of a brass snare to a higher level. The shell is 1mm thick with a stunning oxidized patina that makes each one that arrives at Sweetwater unique. It's complemented with a set of chrome-plated brass tube lugs.

The sound of the drum itself is stunning, with a warmth that comes out boldly when you tune down. Tune it up, and you get a chiming crack, courtesy of a set of brass snares. All told, the Pork Pie 6.5" x 14" Patina Brass USA Custom Snare is a perfect way to add a ton of character to your drum set.

Looks cool, sounds great

I was eyeballing this snare for probably 10 years but never pulled the trigger.. in fact I pretty much only used one snare for like 20 years, a 5.5x14 Pearl maple free-floating which remarkably after all this time still looks brand new. A part of me always felt the sound of it was all I needed and the other part was just uneducated to the world of snares since I never really looked into anything else. Either way, I was really happy with the Pearl and the quality and features of it so why bother? It was probably better quality than something I could get for under $, right? Still, maybe so.

However these days, after a little musical hiatus and as my style and taste has slightly reformed and matured I wanted to see what other sounds I could find and hoped to be able to achieve some of my favorite snare sounds. After some research I found myself in the market for a versatile and good quality brass snare and was recommended a handful of others but of course this was the first one I thought of and decided to finally check it out.

I've had this for some time with this drum now and have certainly not been let down by it. The sound has a nice balance of dark and bright, it's warm, resonant and punchy… while it has characteristics of metal it also has the softness of wood.. there's definitely some depth here and doesn't sound tin-y. No aggressive or unwanted overtones, no need for dampening and I haven't found a tuning that I don't like. That's another thing, it also stays in tune fairly well. Out of the handful of snares I have I always enjoy playing this one and really appreciate the versatility of it. I was jamming out the other night and started playing Zeppelin "Fool In the Rain" and this snare is really not that far off from the snare tone on that recording… crazy, I know!

It comes stock with a Remo Ambassador and that seems to work very well with it. Although I have an Emperor batter head on deck I haven't had the desire to swap it out yet since the Ambassador has been working so well but I'm sure the Emperor will sound great, too… who knows, maybe I'll like it even more! For the price this is a great drum, it sounds great and everything feels good on it… the triple flanged hoops are nice, the tension rods work as they should and the throw-off is smooth.. much like the sound, everything is balanced nicely and it looks great on my drum kit, making this an excellent value imo. All in all, I'm really happy with it.

Check it out!

A must have

Straight out the box with no tuning this drum sounded great. In my option it sounds like a wood / metal hybrid of some sort. I love the finish. Solid drum very well made. I'm surprised that the price is this low. Do yourself a favor add one to your arsenal you won't regret it.

Unbelievable value

I love this snare. I've been on a bit of snare binge lately and I keep coming back to this one. Tune it high and let it crack!

Goto Snare for Recording/Live

This is my goto snare for recording and the unique shell color gets a lot of attention at shows.

I've been searching for that perfect snare sound forever. This drum gets me 99.5% there.

It has a nice deep tone with a pleasant ring from the brass shell.

Very well built.

Custom indeed!

So I know understand what you get with the title "Custom"! This drum delivers and then some. With an Evans Genera HD Dry, I'm able to get 2-3 different sounding snare drums in one. Forgot how beautiful it looks because I was caught up in playing it in awe I love this snare drum
