Purely Birch Snare for Today's Demanding Performer
From its modern birch shells to its cutting-edge hardware, the Sonor SQ1 Series is proof that Sonor, a venerated drum manufacturer with a history rooted in the 19th century, is an unstoppable force in today's drum world. These exquisite German drums combine ferocious tone with designer good looks inspired by mid-20th-century classic cars. SQ1 shells are built from select plies of European birch for great tonal balance and a crisp, modern attack. The shells are slightly undersized to let the heads float freely on the bearing edges, resulting in enhanced tuning range and resonance. Hardware innovations include Sonor's renowned TuneSafe lugs, which keep tuning stable between takes. This 14" x 6.5" SQ1 snare drum features fast-attack Remo Ambassador coated drumheads as well as a smoothly functioning Dual Glide System snare strainer with a licensed Dunnett quick release.

100% European birch shells
Your SQ1 shells are the result of several blindfolded tests between Sonor and its artist endorsers. For both tone and strength, no wood combinations fared better than 100% European birch. In concert with Sonor's Cross Lamination Tension Free (CLTF) construction and OSM sizing, SQ1 shells offer balance across the entire frequency spectrum and a modern dry tone. Low-contact 45° bearing edges give the musical Remo Ambassador Coated heads the freedom to sing out to their full potential. On top of all this, Sonor's Cross Lamination Tension Free ply construction gives the SQ1 shells superior strength and roundness. This means better defense against aging, for a more consistent and longer-lasting drum.
Unusually perfect shell sizing
Sonor undersizes its SQ1 shells slightly, a process it calls Optimum Shell Measurement (OSM), to allow standard-sized drumheads to float freely on the shells. This unrestricted contact between the heads and bearing edges promises a pure, satisfying tone at every tuning range. Adopted from historic methods for building kettle drums, this modification from typical shell sizes brings back a time-tested shell design and produces a sound that is adaptable to a wide variety of musical styles.
Matte lacquered finishes inspired by classic cars
The SQ1 series' exquisite looks were inspired by revered mid-20th-century classic automobiles. And the high-lustre chrome hardware really sets off each of the colors: GT Black, Cruiser Blue, Hot Rod Red, and Roadster Green. With four visually rich hot rod finishes to choose from, you're sure to find the snare of your dreams in the Sonor SQ1 Series.
Dual Glide System (DGS) strainer with licensed Dunnett quick release
Sonor's DGS snare strainer is a wonder to behold — but using it is even more fulfilling. This innovative strainer has a knurled tension-adjustment knob right on top for creating just the right feel, and the Dunnett quick-release lever is generously sized and easy to grab. What's more, the snare wire clip is detachable; in conjunction with the quick-release, it makes resonant head swaps a cinch.
