The Roland TD-07 Range Reviewed (2024)

The TD-07 series is a new and more affordable range of electronic drum sets from Roland that all use the new TD-07 drum module. They still have the same high-quality build as other Roland issues, but there are a few differences and limitations when compared to their top-the-line models.

It does not come as a major surprise that Roland is starting to add more affordable V-Drums offerings outside of their usual entry-level ranges. Brands like Alesis look to have been sweeping up pretty large portions of the lower-end market of electronic drums, and a range like the Roland TD-07 has been pretty well-needed.

Of course, the TD 07 range still cannot be classed as “cheap”. However, all of the kits in this range are relatively affordable when it comes to Roland V-Drums, and their build quality and their overall triggering lives up to expectations.

This V-Drums series features four different varieties, TD-07DMK, the TD-07KV, the TD-07KX, and the TD-07KVX. The VAD103 is also a kit from their V-Drums Acoustic Design range that also uses the TD-07 drum module.

Comparison between the Roland TD-07DMK, TD-07KV, TD-07KX, TD-07KVX, and VAD103

All the V-Drums in this series use the same TD-07 drum module, so it’s just a question of what quality and size of pads/cymbals you’re willing to spend your money on.

1. Roland TD-07DMK
The TD-07DMK is the most budget-friendly kit in the TD-07 series, with a small pad layout and a kick pad that is connected directly to the stand. The TD-07 is ideal for those looking for a relatively affordable e-drum kit with a compact pad size and configuration.
2. Roland TD-07KV
The TD-08KV kit offers the same compact size as the TD-07DMK, but with a bigger kick pad, crash, and ride cymbals.
3. Roland TD-07KVX
The TD-07KVX is the best this series has to offer, including VH-10 hi-hat pads mountable to a hi-hat stand.
4. Roland VAD103
The VAD103 is within Roland V-Drums Acoustic Design range, but it uses the same TD-07 module as the others on this list.
5. Roland TD-07KX
The TD-07KX has the most cymbals of any TD-07 model, including an extra crash, bigger snare, and toms.

Why Did Roland Release The TD-07 Series?

The TD-07 series was created to provide a relatively affordable range of Roland electronic drums that are beyond simple entry-level kits.

Roland is one of the kings of build quality and triggering when it comes to electronic drums. However, oftentimes they’re just simply outside of the price range for many drummers. This range brings very decent features within more reasonable price points that make them a lot more accessible to a larger range of drummers.

TD-07 Module

The Module comes with 143 different instruments. Each one is placed in the TD-07 module so you can pick any combination and build your own drum sets. It has Bluetooth capability. However, it certainly is not as feature-rich as the TD-17 or TD-27 module.

There are 25 pre-programmed kits available. The TD-07 also comes with some 30 different effects, and each one of those may be assigned to individual drums and cymbals. It’s simple to transform a standard kit into something completely unique using multi-effects.

The primary difficulties/grades range from total beginner to expert playing, with numerous lessons and tracks to select from. And it breaks it down into component parts so that you can learn it.

Melodics is a pretty useful service and it’s quite fun and easy to use. If you want to have a little bit of extra motivation and have a bit of a gamified approach to learning drums, then it’s worth checking them out.

Summary

The Roland TD-07 series offers affordable V-Drums for players of any skill level, though they will be particularly suited to beginner and intermediate drummers.

The series features four different types of the TD-07 model and the VAD103 model so that the drummers can have the option to pick and choose the right one for them based on their budget. All the kits use the same module, so It’s just a question of what quality pads and cymbals you’re willing to pay for.
